UAE Government Announce $1,000,000 Drone Prize
f you have an idea for how drones can be used to benefit humanity, your idea might be worth a million dollars.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government have just announced the “UAE Drones For Good Award.” The award has two separate categories: An international competition open to anyone in the world, and a national competition restricted to citizens and residents of the UAE.
The international competition has a first prize of 1,000,000 U.S. dollars. It will reward prototypes of drone services that can benefit humanity within the next 3 years. The winner of the international competition will be announced at the UAE Government Summit in February 2015.
The national competition has a prize of 1,000,000 UAE dirham (roughly equivalent to 272,000 U.S. dollars). It will reward practical ideas for using drone technology to improve UAE government services within the next 12 months. Focus will be on priority sectors such as education, health, transportation, civil defence and tourism. The winner of the national competition will be announced in November this year.
Eligible participants may enter both competitions.
The international competition is similar to the “Drone Social Innovation Award” that was announced by the Drone User Group Network last year, who said they hoped to “spur innovation, investment and attention to the positive role that civilian drone technology can play in our society.”
